The children at St Peter’s CofE Primary School are taught in mixed classes.
The school is currently organised into three classes.
Dolphin Class AM/PM EYFS and Year 1 Miss Jackson, Miss Ritchie and Miss Dodd
Whale Class AM/PM Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 Mrs Saunders and Miss Morrison
Shark Class AM Year 5 and Year 6 Miss Wright and Mrs Britton
Shark Class PM Year 5 and Year 6 Mrs McFarlane and Mrs Britton
As with many small schools, fluctuating numbers and small cohorts can result in organisation and structural changes from year to year. The school's long term planning is therefore reviewed on an annual basis.
The curriculum content will be communicated each term to parents through the class newsletters and also on each class' webpage.
Reading and spelling skills are taught using the Letters and Sounds programme. The Letter and Sounds programme consists of 6 phases which the children progress through on a daily basis. Due to the flexibility with having small cohorts, children are currently grouped according to the phase they are on.
At Ireleth St Peter’s CofE Primary School, the children's reading is developed through the use of the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme. Although Oxford Reading Tree is the main reading scheme used initially, we supplement it with books from other schemes including Collins Big Cat and Ladybird to ensure the children are reading a wide variety of books. Once children have progressed through all 15 stages, they become ‘Free Readers’ where they are encouraged to make their own choices.
At Ireleth St Peter’s, through values rooted in Christian teaching, our community nurtures and enables positive foundations for life. Our distinct Christian ethos permeates throughout ISP.
Working together in successful partnership, our school family embraces the common goal of inspiring every child to reach their fullest potential, through God’s love.
